It is unusual to find a flawless piece of Madrone as large as this tray, which makes it extra special. Madrone is a beautiful tree and a beautiful but difficult wood to work with. It twists and curves as it grows making it tricky for a woodworker. This piece was expertly crafted into the flowing shape and elegant lines. Carves and finely sanded down to thin edges that curl like the tips of a flower. The grains are a rosy golden color and they swirl throughout the piece. This tray has a natural flowing shape, moving much like the grains of wood in the piece.

This would be a stunning piece for a long dining table or island and used to hold fruit or to feature an appetizer spread. It is a functional piece of art harvested from a sustainably sourced tree, made right here on the farm. There will never be another like this one!

This Trees Story

The Pacific Madrone is an evergreen member of the heath family (Ericaceae), closely related to blueberries, mountain laurels, rhododendrons, and manzanita. They are relics of Madro-Tertiary geoflora that lived on this same land millions of years ago. They are a striking tree with beautiful red bark and a curving twisting growth pattern.

This tree lived to a ripe old age and fell naturally on her own during a storm. We harvested and dried the wood, preparing it for carving. This is one of the beauties that came from this tree. A one-of-a-kind piece of function art for your kitchen and home.
