Turmeric Ginger Honey Lemonade: Refreshing, Rejuvenating, Hydrating & Delicious!

Make your own refreshing & hydrating dink that tastes delicious. Made with all natural ingredients & the benefits of raw honey with real, organic, herbs & spices freshly ground and...

This is a simple recipe to make and the ingredients can be adjusted to match your taste and mood. I find this makes a delicious drink that I can serve at a summer meal with friends or prepare for my husband and I when we're working in the heat and the sun. I often make him a jar to take to work with him in the field to combat the heat. The basic ingredients are honey + lemon + salt. It's healthy lemonade with added mineral salts to increase hydration. This recipe was given to me by my Functional Medicine Dr and Acupuncturist to increase my hydration and I've found it to be a favorite drink for us year round but especially when it's hot out. Rather than spending money on pre-made electrolyte drinks which often have unnatural ingredients and food coloring that aren't good for us, this recipe saves money by showing you how to make your own refreshing and hydrating drink out of natural ingredients that are healthy and tailored to your taste.

Why drink electrolytes?

Electrolytes are important to many functions in the body. They are said to support hydration, the lymphatic system, immunity and proper muscles function. Research has found they reduce muscle soreness, cramping and physical endurance. Electrolytes have also been found to support the transportation of nutrition into our bodies cells for overall health and wellbeing. There really is no reason not to make this drink part of our routine!

Ingredients:

  1. One Quart/32 Ounces water (don't use chlorinated water, a purified, well water or spring water is what you want here).
  2. A heaping 1/4 tsp mineral salt or pink salt (not table salt)
  3. One whole lemon (or lime), freshly squeezed
  4. One TBSP (or more to taste) Turmeric Ginger Infused Raw Honey
  5. Optional, one drop of liquid stevia (I'll explain)

How to Make a Delicious Electrolyte Drink:

Have you ever gone for a glass of water or a drink of something like lemonade and while you are drinking it your body gets so thirsty and just wants more and more? I often get that with this drink! My body knows it needs the salts and minerals and a drink of this, especially on a hot day, feels so good to my cells! I love making it with our infused raw honeys because they add such good taste to the drink and I can change the flavor by using our different infusions, depending on what sounds good to me that day. My favorite honey to use is our Turmeric Ginger Infused Honey but I also love our Rose Infused Honey, Ginger Infused Honey and our Virgin Clover Honey.

There are many ways to adapt this basic recipe to make a drink your body will crave. Remember the essential combo is raw honey + mineral salt + citrus juice. My favorite honey to use is our Turmeric Ginger honey because it gives a really nice flavor with a little heat from the ginger that soothes my throat and the natural anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric and ginger combined feels and tastes good for me. Plus, the color is very satisfying!

Recipe:

  • Start by getting out your tea pot and warm one cup of water for dissolving the salt and honey *Keep it under 100 degrees to avoid over heating the raw honey*
  • Get a quart jar or pitcher of about the same volume and add the heaping 1/4 tsp of mineral salt and heaping TBSP of Turmeric Ginger Infused Raw Honey.
  • Add the cup of warm water and stir until the honey and salt have dissolved.
  • Fill the quart jar the rest of the way with cool un-chlorinated water.
  • Add fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice. I usually use a whole one but you can make adjustments here depending on your taste and the size of your citrus.
  • *optional: I add ONE drop of organic liquid stevia to my electrolyte drink. I find that stevia can make flavors pop the way salt and sweet does to dishes. This drink is good without the stevia but I will give you this tip because I find people love it more with that one drop of liquid stevia, even people who otherwise don't like stevia.

This drink can also be refrigerated and enjoyed over a couple of days.
