This piece was carved from the gorgeous manzanita bush native to our area. This whale tail spoon holds roughly 1 Tablespoon of volume and the entire spoon is 6" long.
It would be perfect for a salt scoop on your table so you can see it every day. Or as that special scoop for your loose leaf tea. Dish out spices when cooking or scoop your honey into your daily cup of hot comfort.
Manzanita is a very hard wood and your new spoon will be soft as... well, its true! We condition each spoon with our own mixture of food grade mineral oil and natural bees wax from comb capping. The outer layer of conditioner will wash off but that deeper penetrated oil will stay to preserve your spoon.
The Story of This Piece:
Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) is a large shrub native to California. The way it grows is beautiful, the bark is smooth and red, the branches twist and curve as they grow, creating beautiful natural shapes. This piece demonstrates the natural shape of the manzanita tree, curved, soft and smooth. This was pulled from an old family ranch. These manzanita lived long lives, and grew until they died of old age. It's called The Manzanita Grave Yard. This was carved from wood pulled for such a purpose.
Care Instructions:
We've finished this piece with our bees wax and food grade mineral oil wood conditioner for longer life.
Don't let wood soak in water.
Never use harsh scouring pads.
Hand-wash only with warm water and gentle dish soap
