Manzanita Serving, Stirring & Cooking Spoon, Hand Carved Kitchen Utensil, Sustainably Sourced Wooden Wares
Manzanita Serving, Stirring & Cooking Spoon, Hand Carved Kitchen Utensil, Sustainably Sourced Wooden Wares
There is a lot of detail in this spoon. The wood tends to dictate its shape in a way, either because of cracks or growth patterns, sometimes knots or pitting. As Chris follows the wood, these aspects of the natural wood itself end up shaping the final piece. Because of the way the raw wood grew and how that influenced the carving, this piece ended up with many little details and a beautiful shape. The handle reminds me of bone because of its natural divots and decorative lines. The overall shape is very reminiscent of old world craftsmanship in color of the wood, shape of the piece and its feel in your hands.
Longer than most Manzanita Utensils, this one is 11.25" long with a bowl that is 3.25" long, 2" wide at its widest and roughly .75" at the deepest part of the bowl. It would be great from your morning oatmeal, soups or sauces, scooping hummus, yogurt or baking with.
Each piece is lovingly crafted and unique, carved from sustainably sourced local woods. No other piece will be just like this one!
The Story of This Piece:
Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) is a large shrub native to California. The way it grows is beautiful, the bark is smooth and red, the branches twist and curve as they grow, creating beautiful natural shapes. This piece demonstrates the natural shape of the manzanita tree, curved, soft and smooth. This was pulled from an old family ranch. These manzanita lived long lives, and grew until they died of old age. It's called The Manzanita Grave Yard. This was carved from wood pulled for such a purpose.
