Manzanita Eating Spoon ~ Hand Carved ~ Sustainably Sourced Native Wood
Manzanita Eating Spoon ~ Hand Carved ~ Sustainably Sourced Native Wood
This gorgeous spoon is a unique piece hand carved from beautiful manzanita wood. Manzanita is a very hard wood, very strong and long living with incredible shades of rich maroons, reds and sunny warm rings of light. This spoon is a good size for eating with or perhaps to be used as a serving spoon for small portion appetizers like olives or toppings.
This wood takes a long time to carve because it is such a hard wood and difficult to work. It takes Chris a lot of time and elbow grease to shape and sand this wood to the shine and incredible silky smooth surface, so smooth it reflects the light. Well worth it!!
The Story of This Piece:
Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) is a large shrub native to California. The way it grows is beautiful, the bark is smooth and red, the branches twist and curve as they grow, creating beautiful natural shapes. This piece demonstrates the natural shape of the manzanita tree, curved, soft and smooth. This was pulled from an old family ranch. These manzanita lived long lives, and grew until they died of old age. It's called The Manzanita Grave Yard. This was carved from wood pulled for such a purpose.
