Each piece turns differently and no piece is ever the same as another. Chris hand turned this old cherry tree wood with this traditional Scottish Thistle Flower design. His work is inspired by nature and you can see with this design the similarity to the flower itself. This is a long handled sauerkraut masher and fits inside a regular mouth mason jar. Its length makes it so easy to use comfortably with a tall fermentation jar. A really nice feature of this masher is the handle end, like a door handle fits comfortably in your hand and spreads the pressure out over your palm making it comfortable and ergonomic.

This Pieces Story
Like every piece, this is a one-of-a-kind item. This particular piece came from an old cherry tree near an area that was once a gold rush town and before that, a Native American resting point indicated by the many grinding stones found around the forest. This cherry tree was dead standing with an impressive diameter of 19 inches and standing 60 feet tall. An unusually large wild cherry tree! In an effort to clean the forest for fire safety we harvested this tree and are giving it new life in your homes by making beautiful functional art pieces like this one.

We've finished this piece with our bees wax and food grade mineral oil wood conditioner for longer life.
